The importance of language in learning mathematics cannot be overstated. We understand mathematical ideas by making connections between language, symbols, pictures and real-life situations (Haylock and Cockburn, 2003).

The documents above include mathematical vocabulary that we use in school within each year group.  Teachers and children use these definitions within their maths learning.  Parents can use them to support their children at home.
